About the Archives

The Robert M. Myers Archives and Resource Center (RMARC) holds the records of the Society of the Divine Word’s current and past provinces of the United States, Canada, and the Caribbean, the papers of deceased and former Divine Word Missionaries, and the records of former and current SVD educational institutions, parishes, and missions throughout North America.

Established in its current location in 1989, RMARC’s first director became its eventual namesake: Rev. Robert M. Myers, SVD. In 2002, RMARC was legally authorized to collect, preserve, and make available its collections under the Code of Canon Law, cc. 486-491.

Archival collections are supplemented and complemented by a large collection of scholarly and popular monographs, periodicals, and other publications pertaining to the Divine Word Missionaries, the Catholic Church, missiology, and other pertinent subjects.

Mission Statement

RMARC actively collects and preserves the records of the Chicago Province of the Society of the Divine Word. By accessioning, arranging, and describing its collections, RMARC documents the legacy and history of the Society of the Divine Word throughout North America and around the world. RMARC makes its collections to members of the SVD community, province staff, and researchers. Through this work, RMARC’s dedicated staff supports the Chicago Province, as well as its missions and activities.
