The Pennsylvania Grand Jury’s findings strike us with horror. How could the Catholic Church of the 20^th century have failed to have protected the marginalized and vulnerable in such a brutal way? We grieve the loss of innocence of all victims and are angry with those who committed these grievances. As a member of the Conference of Major Superiors of Men (CMSM), the Society of the Divine Word follows child protection guidelines set forth by the CMSM. We reaffirm our commitment to protecting children and vulnerable adults everywhere. In the words of one Divine Word Missionary this weekend, the past is only forgiven when fresh air is brought to the Church. To that end, we pray for justice, honesty and accountability.
