In 1922, the Society of the Divine Word purchased the 27 acres that have become Miramar. Our first order of business was to start a high school for young men who were thinking about religious life. In 1945, we bought additional land and a country home, which we converted into the Miramar Retreat Center. Today, we offer a variety of retreats for people of all ages, vocations and spiritual needs.
Miramar is located in the town of Duxbury, about 35 miles (56 kilometers) south of Boston, and is easily accessible by car, bus or commuter train. For more information about the grounds, accommodations and retreats, call 781-585-2460 or click here.
Techny Towers Conference and Retreat Center

P.O. Box 176
Techny, IL 60082
UNITED STATES of AMERICA
Where the Vatican has St. Peter’s Cathedral, the Society of the Divine Word’s Chicago Province has Techny Towers. Built in stages, the first section of the structure was constructed in 1909 as a technical school for orphaned boys. As time passed, the building eventually became the first mission seminary in the United States, and by 1923, the Divine Word Missionaries had quadrupled the building’s size and included a Romanesque chapel that can seat up to 700 people.
For most of its history, Techny Towers served as a seminary and home for hundreds of students and Divine Word Missionaries. As the educational needs of the Society changed, so did the function of the Towers.
Today, the building serves as a conference and retreat center with 12 state-of-the-art meeting rooms, break rooms, several dining rooms and 72 guest rooms. Last year, Techny Towers served more than 35,000 meals and hosted more than 250 groups.
Known for its outstanding acoustics and located only 20 miles (32 kilometers) from downtown Chicago, Techny Towers’ Chapel of the Holy Spirit is a regular venue for world-class orchestras and choirs. Individuals, associations and non-profit organizations of all kinds are invited to hold meetings and events in Techny Towers. For more information, call (847) 272-1100 or click here.
