On Earth Day, April 30, representatives from the Society of the Divine Word Chicago Province Justice & Peace Commission and the Northbrook Community Relations Commission dedicated a Peace Pole in front of Techny Towers Conference Center, 2001 Waukegan Road.

A large ecumenical, multicultural segment of the Northbrook and North Shore population participated in the planting of the six-sided, eight-foot western red cedar pole inscribed with the words: "Let Peace Prevail on Earth", written on the pole's sides in six languages: Korean, Arabic, Hebrew, Spanish, Vietnamese and English.

The pole was set into a concrete base surrounded by a circular flower garden. The Northbrook Garden Club donated the flowers and volunteered to tend the garden.

The pole will serve as a constant reminder that the surrounding communities are committed to promoting peace among all people, and that in this they are linked with more than 200,000 other Peace Poles around the world.
