Fr. Martin Padovani’s first book, Healing Wounded Emotions, released in 1987, was a best seller for Twenty-Third Publications. In its seventeenth English printing, it has also been translated into Polish, Portuguese, Slovak, Japanese, Chinese, Korean and Spanish. It is also available in Braille. James Reed of the Toronto School of Theology wrote, “The material in this book is sound clinically and theologically, its advice filled with wisdom and sensitivity, its composition compelling and poetic.”

In his latest book, Healing Wounded Relationships, released by Twenty-Third Publications in February, Fr. Padovani continues his counseling mission in the same style, poetically combining pastoral counseling with sound psychology. Now available for
$12.95, through the Techny Towers Bookstore—bookstore@technytowers.org, Healing Wounded Relationships examines the many aspects of our relationships with others, especially our close and personal ones. In it, Fr. Padovani again provides practical advice on how to communicate, listen, grow in intimacy and
forgive. He offers guidance for times of loss, healing, grieving and anxiety, especially as these experiences affect our relationships. He also deals with learning to love ourselves, which is the key to developing trusting and honest love for others.

Communication is the key to relating to others. Fr. Padovani writes, “The basic goal of communication is revelation, not resolution. Many people abandon the attempt to communicate, saying, ‘What’s the use of talking? We aren’t resolving anything.’ If

resolution is the primary goal of communication, we get nowhere. If revelation is the goal, then we have the hope and possibility of resolution. Most often, within the revelation one makes to another is found the resolution of our problems, because through revelation we reach an understanding of one another.”

Healing Wounded Relationships is another valuable resource for all ministers who engage in pastoral counseling. Pastoral ministers can confidently use it in their counseling and recommend it to their parishioners and others with whom they minister.

Ordained at Techny in 1960, Fr. Padovani has been a full-time, licensed family therapist practicing in Bordentown, New Jersey, since 1968. He has served as a member of the Burlington County Mental Health Board, Catholic chaplain to patients at the Carrier Foundation psychiatric hospital and a member of the Council of Priests of the Trenton diocese. He holds a Master’s degree in clinical psychology from the Iona Institute of Pastoral Counseling in New Rochelle, New York.
