A parishioner of St. Anselm parish, Chicago, Barbara
Anderson wrote: “St. Anselm is a small African American parish
located on the South Side of Chicago in an economically deprived
community. Yet, the spirit of the church is alive and vibrant and
could easily be seen as we celebrated our 90th anniversary in 2001.
Our own bishop Dominic Carmon, SVD was the principal celebrant for
the Mass.” Divine Word priests and Brothers have staffed St.
Anselm church since 1932. Barbara continued, “Several alumni
expressed concern as to whether we can continue the work our forefathers
and mothers started here on 60th Street. With your support and love
we can celebrate 90 more years giving all the praise to God.”
