SVD Partners in Mission news
The 17th General Chapter of the Society of the Divine Word is took place just outside of Rome from June 17 to July 15, 2012. On Monday, July 9, a day of recollection was held with the theme of Collaboration with the Laity, and it was facilitated by a laywoman theologian, Dr. Donna Orsuto, a professor at the Pontifical Gregorian University and co-founder and director of the Lay Centre at Foyer Unitas in Rome.
On the following day, four lay representatives who are members of SVD-affiliated lay organizations, spoke about the nature of their organizations and their relationship with the Society of the Divine Word (SVD), as well as their vision and expectations regarding collaboration with the SVD.
They then participated in a discussion on a proposal from the Generalate, our worldwide governing body, regarding the official recognition of lay associate groups.
These lay associates of the SVD were chosen from among the four zones of the Society of the Divine Word. They included:
- The coordinator of the Missionare Auf Zeit (MaZ) of the German Province (European Zone)
- The past president of the XVD Association, Inc., an association for former SVD seminarians, brothers and priests from the Philippine Central Province (Asia-Pacific Zone)
- The president of the Dansoman Parish chapter of the Friends of the SVD from the Ghana Province (Africa-Madagascar Zone)
- The national coordinator of the Misioneros Auxiliares del Verbo Divino (MAVD) from the Mexico Province (Pan-American Zone)
We are looking forward to seeing what directions these discussions will give for all the lay associations that are affiliated with the SVD, including the SVD Partners in Mission!
