Prayers

Saint Arnold Janssen, our founder, put great emphasis on prayer. He felt that prayer was a staple to missionary work—an absolute necessity. This tenet of his spirituality was so deeply rooted that after founding the Holy Spirit Missionary Sisters, he and Sister Maria Virgo (Helena Stollenwerk) co-founded the Holy Spirit Adoration Sisters.

Commonly known as the pink sisters, the Holy Spirit Adoration Sisters are a contemplative order of cloistered nuns who devote their lives to praying for the missions. These three religious communities—the Society of the Divine Word, Holy Spirit Missionary Sisters and the Holy Spirit Adoration Sisters—make up the Arnoldus family.

The following prayer by Saint Arnold appears in the 2009 edition of the Vademecum, a source of prayers for members of the Arnoldus family. Literally translated, the word vademecum is Latin for "walk with me."

Quarter Hour Prayer

God, eternal truth.
We believe in you.

God, our strength and salvation,
We hope in you.

God, infinite goodness,
We love you with all our heart.

You have sent the Word as Savior of the world,
Make us all one in him.

Fill us with the Spirit of your Son,
That we may glorify your name. Amen.
