Divine Word Novitiate
The term novitiate refers to a 12-month period in which novices—candidates who are interested in joining a religious order—spend time getting more acquainted with the congregation. During this time of spiritual training, Divine Word novices clarify their intentions to be religious missionaries and discern their motivations in wanting to follow Jesus’s life and mission more closely.
It is an exciting time for the candidates because they can spend more time with the Lord through prayer, Scripture reading and sharing, and spiritual exercise before they academically start to study Jesus’s life and mission.
The spiritual enrichment that they experience during this time will serve them for their entire lives as religious missionaries. Often the missionaries say, they cherish their time as novices and would do it again if they could.
